Resolving Errors experienced when installing the Amazon Chime for Outlook Add-In

Note: This article is for the Amazon Chime Add-In for Outlook on Windows. Amazon Chime also offers the Amazon Chime Add-In for Outlook, which works across platforms and supports Office 365. There are a few possible reasons why the Outlook Add-In is not installing correctly. Some of the most common causes and solutions are shown below. We recommend trying each of the steps one at a time. Follow the step instructions and then try to install the Outlook Add-In (Meetings > Schedule a Meeting > Schedule with Outlook).

Note: Many of these steps require that you have local admin rights on the computer. Please work with an IT administrator if you do not have local admin permissions.

1. If you had the add-in working and it stopped, try uninstalling and re-installing the add-in
  1. Quit Outlook.
  2. Navigate to the Control Panel > Add and remove programs.
  3. Locate Amazon Chime for Outlook and choose Uninstall.
  4. Return to Amazon Chime and reinstall the add-in (Meetings > Schedule a Meeting > Schedule with Outlook).
2. Re-install Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime
  1. Navigate to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.a...
  2. Download and install the tools.
  3. Try reinstalling the Amazon Chime for Outlook Add-in.
3. Clear the .NET application cache
  1. If you receive an error similar to this while installing the Amazon Chime for Outlook Add-In, it may be because the .NET application cache needs to be cleared.

To clear the .NET application cache.
  1. Download the attached file mage.zip
  2. Unzip the file.
  3. Open a command window (Start > Run > cmd.exe).
  4. Navigate to the unzipped directory (e.g. "cd Downloads\mage").
  5. Run the command mage.exe -cc
  6. Try reinstalling the Amazon Chime for Outlook Add-in.
4. Clear the ClickOnce Data Store
  1. Click on the Start menu and enter %appdata%
  2. Navigate to the 2.0 folder, which will be in one of a few places:
    Navigate to %LocalAppData% and then select Apps where there should be a 2.0 folder
    Or
    C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0
    Or
    C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Local Settings\Apps\2.0
  3. Copy the 2.0 folder to your desktop (as backup).
  4. Delete the original 2.0 folder.
  5. Try reinstalling the Amazon Chime for Outlook Add-in.
5. Remove manifest files that may have been corrupted
  1. Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\RL7D8Z08.RY4\Y4K70JZT.962\
    * Note* The portion after 2.0 may be different in your machine
  2. Delete the 4 files starting with chime… (2 dll and 2 vsto).
6. Ensure that the Outlook install is complete. (Instructions for Windows 10 and Office 2016)
  1. Quit Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Navigate to the Apps & Features control panel.
  3. Locate Microsoft Office from the list of Apps.
  4. Choose Modify.
  5. Choose the Repair option and Continue.
  6. It takes a bit of time to run through everything - when completed it requests a reboot.
7. Using Regedit.exe remove registry entries that may be blocking the install
* We recommend backing up your registry before making any changes (select a key and then choose
File > Export).
  1. Look at each entry in the following folders and delete any that specifically refer to Amazon Chime for Outlook (e.g. that have DisplayName or ProductName that references Amazon Chime for Outlook)

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTA\Solutions
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTO\SolutionMetadata
8. Using Regedit.exe remove Outlook specific registry entries that may be blocking the install
* We recommend backing up your registry before making any changes (select a key and then choose
File > Export).
  1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\16.0\Outlook\Addins
  2. Open the folder named "ChimeOutlookPlugin" and remove all entries (you can leave the (Default) entry).
  3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\16.0\Outlook\Resiliency\CrashingAddinList and "Resiliency\DisabledItems" and remove all entries from these folders (you can leave the (Default) entry). Note that the folders may be empty or may not have been created by Outlook.
  4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\ChimeOutlookPlugin and ensure that LoadBehavior is set to 3.
  5. Restart Outlook.
  6. You may also need to reinstall the Amazon Chime Add-in.
9. Resolving SecurityException error
* We recommend backing up your registry before making any changes (select a key and then choose
File > Export).
  1. If the add-in still won’t install, and the following is displayed error.System.Security.SecurityException: Customized functionality in this application will not work because the certificate used to sign the deployment manifest for Amazon Chime for Outlook or its location is not trusted. Contact your administrator for further assistance.
  2. Launch regedit.exe
  3. Navigate to either
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\Security\TrustManager\PromptingLevel
    or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\Security\TrustManager\PromptingLevel\MyComputer\
  4. If any of the subkey values is Disabled, it doesn't allow user to install an add-in even if the add-in is signed by a valid certificate. Set any PromptingLevel subkey that is Disabled to Enabled
