Yes! Chat Rooms in Amazon Chime are private and users must be invited or allowed to become members in a Chat Room.

Here is how you can help others find your chat room and request access:

  1. Sign into Amazon Chime using the web app.
  2. Create a chat room or navigate to a chat room that you would like to help others find.
  3. Copy the web url of the chat room.
  4. Share the web url of the chat room with others (e.g. publish it on a wiki or capture in a doc)
  5. When a user clicks on the web url they will be redirected to a browser and prompted to sign in. If they are not members of the chat room they will be presented with a message and an option to Request access
    request access option
  6. The user will receive a message indicating that their request was sent
    request success message
  7. A message will be posted in the room indicating that there was a user that requested access (their name and email will be included in the message)
request is posted in the room
  8. An Administrator or other Member depending on the setting (Administrators can go to the three dot menu > choose Edit chat room > choose who can add new members) can click on the link and choose to add the requester.
