What are the bandwidth requirements for Amazon Chime?

The bandwidth requirements are listed below for the various media services Amazon Chime provides.

Amazon Chime Business Calling

  • call: ~90 kbps up and down (includes media payload and packet overhead)

Audio

  • 1-1 call: 54 kbps up and down
  • large call: no more than 32 kbps extra down for 50 callers

Video

  • 1-1 call (both active tiles): 1.4 Mbps up and down
  • 3-4 active tiles: 650 kbps up and 1.7Mbps down
  • 5-16 active tiles: 400 kbps up and 2.5 Mbps down
  • 11-18 active tiles: 180 kbps up and 2.8 Mbps down
  • 19-25 active tiles: 120 kbps up and 4.1 Mbps down
  • up and down bandwidth will adapt for changing network conditions
  • attendees can lower downward bandwidth by pausing one or more video tiles
  • attendees choosing featured video will increase downward bandwidth as featured tile uses 1.4 Mbps down

Screen

  • 1.42 Mbps up (presenting) and down (viewing) for high quality
