Amazon Chime video background blurring uses a pre-trained model to detect you and the boundary between you and your background. The feature never uses facial recognition, it never gathers or stores biometric data, and it never uses images stored on a database.
Background Blur only runs in the desktop clients on
- Windows 10 or later, and
- macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or later.
The feature uses your graphics processing unit (GPU) to blur the background, and older GPUs may not have the power to run it.
If you try to use Background Blur on a computer with an unsupported operating system or an older GPU, Amazon Chime displays an advisory message, and the feature won’t start. Visit the Supported Platforms for more details.
If you have an older computer and your video starts to lag, turn off Background Blur.
